Roman Name: Ceres

Pronunciation: duh MEE tur  

Job: Goddess of grain, vegetation, and agriculture
Symbol: Torch, crown, sceptre, and stalks of grain
Birth: Daughter of Kronos and Rheia. Hera had three brothers, Zeus, Poseidon and Hades, and two sisters Hera and Hestia. Lived inside Kronos's stomach.
Marriage: No husband but did have affairs with both Poseidon and Zeus.
Children: Persephone.

Interesting Stories about Demeter:

Demeter is known for helping found the "Eleusinian Mysteries". These were huge festivels held every five years. They were importaint events for many centuries. Yet, little is known of them as those attending were sworn to secrecy.

Demeter also had a vicious side. Triopas, king of the Thessalians, tore down the temple of Demeter. For destroying her temple, Demeter, made him hunger. Afterwards he would never be satisfied by any amount of food.
